40. Introduction to Profile
In this episode, Kelsey introduces the concept of Profile in Human Design and the evolutionary process they represent. While Type, Strategy, and Authority describe how your energy moves, Profile reveals the archetypal character, the costume, through which your purpose is lived.
This episode offers a conceptual foundation for understanding where profile comes from and why profile adds nuance and texture to your lived experience without being something you need to “do” or optimize.
What's Discussed in this Episode:
- What Profile is and why it’s described as “the costume of our purpose”
- How profile differs from (and complements) Type, Strategy, and Authority
- Where profile comes from in the chart
- The relationship between profile lines and the I-Ching hexagrams
- The six profile lines as stages in an evolutionary learning process
- The distinction between lower trigram (personal) and upper trigram (transpersonal)
- An introduction to the archetypal themes of Lines 1–6
- Why we can all relate to every line, even if it’s not in our profile

There is much nuance and infinite differentiation within the shared characteristics of people with the same profile. I'm a 5/2. Of all the other 5/2's in the world, first of all, there's the differentiation of aura type, right?
A 5/2 Manifestor is going to show up in a very different way from a 5/2 Reflector, a 5/2 Generator, a 5/2 Projector. Authority is going to color that in a big way as well.
And even if there was another 5/2 Emotional Manifester in my life, they are the fifth line of a different gate. So it's a different form of heresy that's getting played out. Heresy within a different concept, within a different territory.
Speaker A:Welcome to the Living Your Design Podcast. I'm your experimentor Kelsey Rose Tortorice. This podcast is an audio only release Of the full length in depth Human Design Foundations course I've been teaching over the last several years.
It is a no bullshit, comprehensive, embodied introduction to the human design system that will challenge your ego mind and support you in your process of reuniting with the unique wisdom of your body.
In episode one, I speak a bit about the process that led me to releasing this course for free in podcast form, and I offer a few notes that might be useful to contextualize and clarify what you'll hear in this episode and beyond. I recommend giving that short intro episode a listen if you haven't yet.

Speaker A:The profile lines... Basic information about your design typically not included in LYD because at least my understanding of the why for it being excluded from LYD is it is not connected or crucial to your understanding of the most basic mechanics of living your design, which are type, strategy and authority.
However, it's something that when you first dip your toes into human Design, you're going to see right away and it's a very little Bit of information that can give you a lot more context about your design, to add to your awareness and your process of surrender to the truth of who you are. As we get into profile, there's a lot more of the technical aspects of the mechanics of design that start to come into play.
And so I'm going to, throughout this unit, a little bit in this video, and then especially in the final video of this unit, going to offer little previews of that advanced knowledge.
But it's everything in between this first video in this unit and the final video in this unit that's really what I personally intend to intended for, for you to be able to take in and absorb and work with, in addition to the typical Lyd content. And all those middle videos are just an overview of each of the six profile lines.
And so just one of my many disclaimers that some of the more advanced stuff that I get into in this unit, insofar as introducing the whys and the theory and the mechanics behind the profile line, is just extra information for those of you who might be interested in it and craving it. I also know some people enroll in my Lyd class when they already have a fundamental understanding of type, strategy, and authority and centers.
So as you're spiraling deeply through that material, if you are someone who came to Lyd not fresh to human design, here's a little bit more information for you to spiral through and integrate. But a lot of it is really not crucial what we're going to look at. Just an introduction to profile. So what is profile? What are our profiles?
And we'll do a little review of the structure of the Rave Mandala, and we'll take a look at the I-Ching hexagrams.
These are things that were very briefly introduced at the top of Lyd to get us oriented to what we were looking at in our body graph and why we have the definition that we have based on our natal chart.
That's the calculation of our personality and then the calculation of our design, which comes from the astrological configuration of the planets before you were born, when your form in your vehicle was coming together inside of the womb.
So we'll revisit the Rave mandala a little bit in the I Ching hexagrams, this time more in the context of the profile line rather than the gates, or in addition to the gates, I should say.
And the other piece in this intro video is we're just going to start to orient to the six lines as a whole and look at the evolutionary process that takes place and the different patterns that we can see within the six lines of the profile. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. After this video, there will be six videos separately overviewing each of the six lines.
And then there will be one more video where we kind of contextualize the profile in two ways.
One, we'll contextualize Profile using some previews of more advanced human designs, which is a little bit more context about what Profile is and how it works with some of these other more advanced concepts that are a part of Profile when you get more deeply into it.
And then we'll also zoom back in a bit to the LYD content specifically and we'll contextualize how Profile works alongside our type, strategy and authority. So first, introducing profile, there's 12 different potential profiles and they are the 12 different possible combinations of the six profile lines.
Here are some just kind of introductory facts and orientations to Profile. Profile is a prominent component of your design, but not typically included in the LYD curriculum.
Because as I've mentioned, awareness of your profile is not as crucial to your alignment with your form as awareness of your type. Centers and strategy and authority are. RA says that Profile is the costume of our purpose.
So thus far we've talked about how aura type describes the energetic role and functionality of your frequency and your form. Profile describes the archetypal character who's carrying out the purpose of your life. It's the costume that your aura wears.
So the energetic function of our aura, it's not so much about our personality, right? It's not so much about our mannerisms and our characteristics. It's about the actual energetic frequency that we move through the world with.
And the aura type as a synthesized strategy for all that carries all of those frequencies, that helps to orient us to the base level octave of our energetic Auric experience. But then when it comes to what's the character, the role, the personality of this energetic body, that's where the profile comes in.
Now getting a little bit more literal about what profile is, the six lines are a six part process of learning. We learn in 1, 2 and 3 and sharing. We share, express, externalize, influence the other in 4, 5 and 6.
And your profile is pinpointing two parts in that repeated six part process.
So I want to clarify that this six part process in its entirety is a process that is outlining the the human experience of realization essentially on every front, in every potential fractal way of applying the human experience of realization. And we all experience this full process repeatedly by transit, right?
As planets move through the zodiac or in the case of human design, the rave mandala, they're moving through the 12 signs or the 64 gates, and they're moving through the six lines of each of those 64 gates.
So every time a planet moves into a new gate, we've got sort of a new component of the human experience coming to light according to that planet or the nodes. And as it moves through the gate, it moves through this six part process from investigation towards embodiment.
And we're all experiencing this by transit. And this is also just the six lines are representative again of this organic human process towards realization.
And so we're all experiencing this experientially anytime we have a new concept to integrate. It starts with investigation and it ends potentially with embodiment. The from the one to the six.
And so we're all going to relate to aspects of each of these lines.
However, the two lines that are part of your profile come from your the position of the sun and therefore the earth which is opposite the sun at the moment of your birth and the moment of your design, your personality and your design, sun, earth.
And so you really embody, you really play the role of the two parts of this, the character who lives in the two parts of the process that your profile consists of. I often think about astrology when I think about profile, right?
Because for, for example, as an Aries, something that I find myself saying a lot is yes, Aries is like newborn energy, impulsive in the moment, individual. I just got here to my separate life, to this separate experience of incarnation energy.
But what comes right before Aries is Pisces, which we tend to associate with deep connection, no separation, the void of souls, old soul, wisdom, because everything is connected there. And so I often say in typical Aries defense fashion that yes, Aries carries this individuated, impulsive new fresh baby energy.
But it remembers the completion, the wholeness, the connection, the sage wisdom of Pisces. And the other more zoomed out, maturized signs before Pisces in reverse order, Aquarius, Capricorn, right? Those all lead to Aries energy.
So I'm going to talk a lot about this process of evolution from one to six. But one remembers six, right? The first line of one gate comes right after the sixth line of another gate.
And so as with all these things that we look at linearly, we're not talking about, I'm going to use the language pre primitive to evolved to move from one to six because that's a part of how our minds are able to orient to the frequencies behind these six principles.
But we're not talking about primitive to evolved in terms of everybody with a sixth line or a fifth line and their design is a more evolved being than people with a first line or a second line, or without a fifth line or a sixth line, so on and so forth. Profile is the quantum character of these two parts of you. So you've got a personality number in your profile. That's gonna be the first number.
This is the character that you play consciously. It comes from the line of your personality and your personality, sun and earth. And then you've got a design number in your profile.
That's the second number. And this is the character that you play unconsciously that's informing the conscious role that you play.
And as with all things in human design, we're studying this binary consciousness.
We're studying the binary of personality and design and the quantum of how those two things, the red and the black or the black and the red, to say it in the same order, Personality design, the black and the red.
Human design is a study of how those two things come together, Held together by the magnetic monopole in the G to maintain the illusion of separation and the illusion of time and space so that we can have this experience of our intelligent design.
So your profile, the combination of the two numbers, is the quantum character of those two parts, which is holding within it the duality of your binary consciousness of your personality and your design. Each of the 64 gates are divided into six sections that we call lines.
And this is where profile comes from as a planet, in the case of profile as the sun earth axis, they're exactly opposite. So they move through the lines of their respective gates at the same time.
As the sun Earth access moves through a gate, it will progressively move from line one to line two to line three to line four to line five to line six. And the position of your personality, Sun Earth, in the lines of their gate is the first number in your profile.
And the same position based on those six subdivisions. Not the same. The different position based on those six subdivisions of your design, Sun, Earth, will give you the second number in your profile.
Now, this is going to be one of those moments where I zoom out a bit.
Maybe for people who are ready for it, who came to this class with a foundation already set and you've already learned profile, maybe for our first lines, who just want all the information. And for some of you, maybe just, you know, extra information so that you have a direction to go to when you're ready to study deeper into this.
I'M also wanting to point out to you that each of those six lines as pictured in this image, are further subdivided into six colors. So six times six. There's 36 different color orientations.
One gate, which is 64 divisions, one 64th of the full Zodiac or the full rave mandala, has six lines in it and 36 colors in it. So it's a 30A color. Your color is a 36th of a gate, which is already a 64th. Right.
So what I'm pointing out here is that our human design is so specific. It's so incredibly specific. Each of those six colors is then divided into six tones. Each of these tiny slices of color has six tinier slices of tone.
And. And each of those, invisible to our eyes, tiny slices of tone is then divided into five bases.
And there's information about your design in each of these layers. And I'm gonna kind of orient you to what information that maybe you've already heard of comes from which of these layers in your design.
But this is very extra.
Again, the important part of this in terms of getting oriented to your profile is simply understanding that all the gate activations in your design are followed by their line activation. So they're further specifically activated within a certain line of that gate and your personality and design.
Sun Earth lines are what determine your profile personality. Sun Earth is the first number in your profile design. Sun Earth is the second number in your profile.
Now, if we do take it into the next layer of subdivision color, the design Sun, Earth color is what gives you your determination. So this is going to be appetite. Consecutive or alternating appetite. See if I can go through this quickly. Taste, open or close taste.
Thirst, hot or cold thirst. Touch, nervous or calm touch. Sound, high or low sound. And light, direct or indirect light. Those all come from the color of your design. Sun, Earth.
So below the line is the color and the position of your design. Sun Earth gives you determination, which is your digestive system. Not involved in Lyd. But often in the Lyd discussions, it comes up.
So perhaps we've talked about it already as you're taking the course, or perhaps you've heard about it elsewhere. Just giving you a heads up that this is where it comes from. This is all called the substructure.
Further division of profile lines, which are already a division, a subdivision of gates. Your design nodes. Color give you environment. So first color under your design nodes. So you'll see your design nodes, Gate, then line, then color.
First color is caves. 2nd color is markets. 3rd color is kitchens. 4th color is mountains. 5th color is valleys, 6th color is shores, your personality.
So on the other side, sun, earth, color gives you your motivation and your personality nodes, color gives you what we call perspective or view.
Not actually going to move forward with listing these out because as we go through each of the six lines in the videos to follow, I have it listed on the bottom there.
So as you're orienting to each profile line and the characteristics that we associate with the role of that profile line, you'll be able to see the corresponding determination, environment, motivation and view that go with each of that. Just to again give you that bird's eye view of how all of this is connected.
Because really the six lines are the characteristics that go with these six principles that are also going to apply on the color and tone level.
So as you, if you, as you study deeper into the substructure, I just wanted to give you this overview, this information that what you're learning about profile will apply to those deeper levels. So I think it can be beneficial to your, to the learning process to start to see those correlations.
Now, even though the focus point right now is on the line level now we can continue to subdivide into six tones. And tone is what determines variable leftness and rightness.
So if you have first, second or third tone underneath color, that's going to give you a left arrow wherever it shows up for these same four positions listed in the color section. And if you have fourth, fifth or sixth tone, you're gonna have a right arrow. And all of the above are then divided into five bases.
So base is kind of its own thing. It doesn't really follow the six principles that show up in tone, color and line. It has its own sort of orientation.
And it's very compelling and interesting to me what, what base is about. But it's the pieces that I've studied up to this point I have not really retained on a conscious level.
It's so much more complex and orients us to a whole different sort of sector of the human design system. So what base does determine? Things just like tone, color and line all determine aspects of your nuanced, differentiated design.
But the things that base determines are beyond what I've retained to the point of articulation in my studies thus far. So I can't really sum it up for you. And it doesn't fit this same structure that tone, color and line all fit into.
But it is very interesting, and I will tell you what I do know is that it has to do with dimensionality. The five dimensions of base okay, moving on, coming back to profile.
Specifically, as a subdivision of gate, your profile comes from the line of the gate that your personality, sun, Earth are in and your design, Sun, Earth are in, and every other placement in your design, including your nodes, as well as all the planets. So there's 13 total placements on your design side, 13 total placements on your personality side, 26 placements total.
And it's just these four, the top row pictured here, personality and design, Sun, Earth axes that give you your profile. But all the other parts of your design also have a line activation.
And I bring this up to say that if you resonate strongly with profile lines that are not in your profile, which means they're not the line of your personality and design, Sun, Earth gates, you might note, you might see that you have multiple of those other line activations that you resonate with outside of your profile in other placements. So, for example, I'm a 5, 2, but I have a good amount of first line activations in my design.
So there's smaller pieces of me that tend to orient to the first line characteristics. But what RA taught is that 70% of your design is in that sun, Earth axis.
So all those other placements combined make up about 30% of your orientation. So just pointing that out. And if you, I believe, if you look at your.
The free chart that's provided on jovian, the website jovian.com I believe it shows you all the gates and all the line activations. I don't think it shows you color, tone, base, but I think you can see all 26 of your gate and line activations.
So again, I have sun in 17 and Earth opposite that in 18. And you can see they're both. Everything underneath the gate matches 5, 6, 3, 2.
Fifth line, sixth color, third tone, second base for me, but it's the fifth line that gives me the five of my five, two profile. And if we look over here on my design side, I have my sun, Earth in the opposite gates of 38, 39.
But then you can see second line, first color, second tone, first base in my design.
And that matches on both sides because they're going to be in the same part opposite, exactly opposite gates in the same section of that gate by line, color, tone, base. Okay, so lots of extra stuff. But your profile comes from the line of the gates of your personality and design, Sun, Earth.
And just a reminder that the gates and lines in the rave mandala come from the I Ching hexagrams. And each hexagram of the I Ching has Six lines in it. So each of these squares contains a hexagram inside of it. Hexa means six.
So it's six different lines. And every. Each one of the 64 hexagrams has a unique combination of Yang lines, which are solid, and yin lines, which are broken.
So you can see in this very first hexagram, we see all yin line, all. Sorry, all Yang lines, all solid lines. In the second hexagram, we see all yin lines. We can see that corresponds here to gate one in the Rave Mandala.
And you can see that same hexagram here, all Yang lines, solid. And then across from that gate two, and we can see all yin lines broken.
And then it doesn't necessarily follow numerically around the wheel, but what it does is it follows a certain pattern. So as we move from this gate, let's start with 1. As we move from 1 to 43.
So moving in zodiacal order, in the Rave Mandala, the first hexagram, or gate one, has six yang lines. The next one, which we call 43, has five yang lines and a yin line on top. So there is a pattern that's studied in a little bit in rave ABCs.
I believe that we're not going to go over here, but I just wanted to show that this comes from these 64 unique combinations of yin and Yang in the hexagrams. Those hexagrams symbolize the quality and essence based on the specific order of and combination of Yang and yin energy.
Those symbolize the quality and essence of each of the hexagrams and thus each of the 64 gates in the rave mandala. And each of these six lines in the hexagrams of the I Ching are the basis of the six profile lines.
Extra info, but again, just kind of drawing the whole visual for you and perhaps connecting some potential dots. Okay, now let's actually get into the profile lines.
So we're going to look at these six lines and these six key principles from a variety of angles via some different patterns in this intro section. But first, the main thing that I want to orient you to is, is that of these six lines, we divide them into what we call trigrams, right?
Hexagram is all six lines. Trigram is three lines. So every hexagram has two trigrams stacked on top of it.
The lower trigram, made up of 1, 2, and 3, are often referred to in human design as the personal trigram. So you'll hear lower trigram or you'll hear personal trigram.
These three lines are the part of the six line process that have to do with taking in and learning information for oneself, it's personal.
When we get to the upper trigram made up of 4, 5 and 6, which is often referred to as the transpersonal trigram, now we're in the part of the process where we're taking what was learned and established during the lower trigram components and we are influencing the other somehow with it. So that's the first thing to kind of ground into when examining these six profile lines.
Lower trigram personal, taking in information and learning upper trigram transpersonal, using what was learned and established during the first half of the process to influence in some ways the other. Now, each of the lines is a step within the journey of realizing a gate or channel or circuit group. Now focus on gait for now. When I.
When we get to the last lecture in this section, I'm going to be doing a very modest overview of a concept called angle. So you can have a right angle cross, and this is referring partially to your incarnation cross.
You have a right angle cross, a juxtaposition cross, or a left angle cross.
And based on angle and based on the top number in your profile, your personality role is about that component of the process, either for the gate it's in or the full channel or the whole circuit group. But this is really extra info.
So for, for right now, I just want to focus on the idea that each of these six profile lines is a step within the journey of realization for something larger. Right. So we can begin with just the idea of whatever profile line you have.
It's in process with that step towards realization and embodiment of your gait. Steps within the journey of evolution through their specific circuitry.
So either the gate, channel or full circuit from investigation which happens in line one, towards embodiment of it, modeling it, which happens in line six, the role model. Again, this is not terribly important, especially at the lyd level.
Perhaps the two basic takeaways for now are one, that there is much nuance and infinite differentiation within the shared characteristics of people with the same profile. Right? I'm a five two of all the other five twos in the world. Of course, first of all, there's the differentiation of aura type. Right?
A 5, 2 manifestor is going to show up in a very different way from a 5, 2 reflector, a 5, 2 generator, a 52 projector. Authority is going to color that in a big way as well.
And even if there was another five, two emotional manifesto in my life, they are the fifth line of a Different gate, Right? So it's a different form of heresy that's getting played out. Heresy within a different concept, within a different territory.
The other takeaway potentially here from this introduction is that the definition of your gates and channels and centers etc. Is connected to your profile mechanically. Right?
So again, just kind of helping to connect some dots that your profile, which feels in practice like something very different from everything we study in Lyd, it is connected, right? Because it, it does come from a gate activation in your design. It's the specific orientation within that gate in your design.
And that gate in your design based on whether it's a part of a full channel or not, might be a part of what makes you your aura type and might be a part of what gives you your authority, right? Or it might be an aspect of how your not self shows up if you have that gate defined in an undefined center.
As I've mentioned, these six lines are an evolutionary process. We're moving from learning to influencing.
But now let's look a little more closely within this lower trigram, the personal trigram, where we're in this personal learning process, we have the 1, 2 and the 3. The investigator, the hermit and the martyr. Briefly, these are three steps to learning something. One, researching it, investigating it.
Two, isolating in privacy and engaging with it in a way that's natural via practice, hermitting out and just being with that myself in that process.
And then three, the martyr going out and trying it, applying the knowledge that was investigated and refined in one and two and going out and actually seeing what works and what doesn't work. And kind of like doing the hard work of bumping into the things in order to see what really works, what's really true.
From this learning process, then we get up into 4, 5 and 6. We have the opportunist who's oriented towards finding opportunities to influence the other with what was learned.
We have the heretic who is messaging heresy. So taking that influence and sending it out far and wide through taking a universal approach to the information or to the knowledge.
And then we have the role model who instead of messaging the sentiment, the role model just lives it, it models, it demonstrates via its embodied version of whatever was learned in the first trigram. So we've got most primitive to most evolved.
Now this language of primitive to evolved to me hits a little more clearly and directly when we're talking about color. So when we're talking about like the appetite digestive system evolving towards the light based digestive system.
And when we're Talking about environment. So a cave's environment to a shore. Literally thinking of like cave people, the most primitive version of Homo sapiens lived in caves, right?
And same with, on the personality side, the view evolves from survival view to personal view. And the motivation evolves from fear motivation to innocent motivation.
However, there is still something, you can still see the primitive and evolved orientation through looking at these binaries here.
So at this point in Lyd, I've mentioned multiple times this idea of the three awareness centers, the spleen, the Ajna and the solar plexus, sort of showing us this evolution of human awareness. Our most ancient awareness center, the spleen, is oriented towards security.
And anytime you're dealing with one and two, whether it's the line, the color or the tone, you are tapping into splenic binary. These are lines in this case that are oriented towards security, the investigator and the hermit.
Then as we transition from the lower trigram to the upper trigram, with the three and the four, we move into the Ajna binary. Inherently unstable, but with the potential for mutation. So you've got the three the martyr and the four the opportunist.
The three and four principles, whether line, color or tone, are orienting towards change, evolution, transformation and instability, because mutation transformation requires a lack of stability in order for that mutation to take place. And then when we get into 5 and 6, we're in the solar plexus binary. And this is the most evolved, right, the multidimensional spirit approach.
And you can see in parentheses here, I've also included another pattern that I'm just kind of glossing over, that the lines alternate yin to yang. So 1 is yin, in principle, 2 is yang, 3 is yin, 4 is yang, 5 is yin, 6 is yang.
So each of these groups of two and these splenic binaries have a yin orientation within that binary and a Yang orientation within that binary. And that's why it's called the splenic binary. So just more patterns. We'll revisit these concepts as we're looking at each line as a whole.
I want to talk about the idea of harmonics. When we divide the six lines into their two trigrams. So when we divide the hexagram into two trigrams, we have harmonic relationships.
So for example, we have the 1 and the 4, which are both foundational. The 1 is the foundation of the lower trigram, the 4 is the foundation of the upper trigram. And so they're going to have some harmony amongst them.
And then the two and the five, the middle part of each trigram is, in my opinion and experience about synthesis.
So it's synthesizing, becoming more natural at more organic, more impactful, potentially via practicing, via synthesis, whatever was built in the foundation of either trigram.
And then when we get to the three and the six, we have another version of harmony, because both of these lines are about completing their trigrams and adapting or transitioning into the next trigram or the next hexagram, the next gate. And I want to specify here that where the language comes from.
So the words foundation and completion are Ra's words for the energy of the 1, 4, harmonic foundation and the 3, 6, harmonic completion. I believe the resource where I saw foundation and completion just used, like the word middle for two and five.
So I'm providing the language synthesis, which is a word that I often use to describe the second and fifth line harmony. But then on the right here, these are raw words as well. These are like from the human design tradition, from source material, from Ra.
We can look at the six parts here in terms of what each principle, each of the six principles is about. But we can also look at those in the context of these harmonies. So beginning with. Let's just go through them one to six first.
So the first line, the investigator, or the first principle in general, because this would also apply to color and tone, is about introspection. This is yin, splenic, binary. The second line is projection. It's yang.
So even though the second line is not very oriented to what's happening out in the world, Right. It's still personal. One of the components of the second line, one of the qualities of it is that people can see you.
That's why the second line tends to hermit, because eyes are on them and they want to kind of protect themselves for those eyes from those eyes. But the second principle is a Yang principle, and so it is actually projecting outwards, not necessarily consciously or intentionally, but.
But that's the word, the language that goes with line two. The third principle is adaptation.
So taking what was learned via introspection and hermitting, investigating and hermitting and adapting to the physical realm, the mutated realm. And then when we get to the fourth line or fourth principle, we have externalization.
So now we're just beginning to externalize what was learned in the first three and to bring in the harmonics. This is the foundation of the transpersonal. So it's building the foundation for how we influence one another.
Beginning to externalize what happened in the personal trigram process. We get to the fifth line, it's still this idea of synthesis and practice. But now it's.
Instead of building on the foundation of what was investigated, we're building on the foundation of externalization. So the fifth line is about synthesizing externalization, universalizing externalization.
And then when we get to the sixth line, it's completion again. But now it's in transition towards one. We're going to trans instead of adapting for the external realm, which is what three's about.
The sixth line is about transitioning back into introspection. And so the sixth line is like kind of detached. It doesn't have to think about or practice or message or universalize what this gate was about.
Instead, it simply embodies it through living as itself, so that it can look ahead, look forward to the next thing, transition. Transition and adaptation are harmonic via completion. Universalization and projection are harmonic via synthesis.
Externalization and introspection are harmonic via foundation. Lastly, I just want to introduce you to this house photo.
In this house metaphor that's often used to talk about profile, I talk about it a little bit. I don't rely on it too much. But I will reference it in pieces and you'll hear it elsewhere. I view study profile in human design.
So I just want to orient you to it and also kind of orient you to these harmonies, these harmonics within the house. So this Image comes from IHDs. I believe RA came up with it.
If we look at the 1 and the 4, we're dealing with the foundation of the two levels in a house. So the 1 is about the first floor foundation, and the 4 is about the second floor foundation.
The idea here, and these will kind of make sense as we move through all six levels. But the idea here, and you can see with the one, this guy is like examining the floor.
He's looking down into the floor and he's checking on the foundation. That's what the first principle is always about. It's about assessing the level of security, the strength of the foundation.
In this metaphor of the house, which is going to be that first floor and everything below the floor, the foundation of the house. The four is the foundation of the second floor. So we're looking inside of the house here. This is a glimpse to inside the house.
This is what's happening up, up on the second floor, the foundation of the transpersonal realm. When we get to the two and the five, the middle or the synthesis, the synthesizing of each trigram, we're talking about the windows.
So you can see here the second floor window and the fifth floor window. Second line, hermit. But Yang.
So this second line, the idea of the metaphor here is that the second line person, they're just practicing guitar inside of their house. They're not trying to perform for the passerbyers. But look at this image. It's nighttime and the lights on.
And if you've ever walked by houses on the first floor, if the lights on, you can see what's happening inside. So that's kind of the energy of the second line, the hermit.
I'm just in my house practicing my guitar for the sake of my own process, my own enjoyment. However, if anybody passes by, they will see it. It's this Yang line. It is projecting its gifts, its process, its personal process out.
We're in the fifth line. It's very different energy. Right? This fifth line person is standing right by the window looking out.
They're not engaged in their own process like the 2 is. We're in the transpersonal with the 5. But you can't see clearly into the second floor window the way that you can into this, the first floor window.
As a passerby, you can't really tell what's going on.
You kind of just see the silhouette of the person or the shape of what's happening and you're going to guess, you're going to provide a bunch of context about what you think is happening in there. But if you're on the first floor, you can't actually tell. And that's the energy of the fifth line. Both the 2 and the 5 deal with projection.
The 2 is Yang. It's projecting itself out kind of unintentionally. The 5 is Yin.
So it's receiving projections from the outside world as it looks out from the transpersonal realm. And then what we use in the metaphor for the completion components of each trigram are the first floor completion, which is.
It's pictured as a ladder, but typically referred to as like a staircase, moving from the first floor to the second for three and the second floor completion for six, which is considered the roof. So a little hard to see in this image that this is a person laying up on the roof looking out to what's beyond, which is the energy of the six.
So three is kind of the hard work of climbing up the stairs to. To adapt to the next floor, the next level of externalization with the 4. And the 6 is looking beyond to not even this house.
Like the six is like, I'm not even a part of everything happening here. I'm looking on to the next. So being up on the roof is what we refer to for the six.
