20. The Generator (Part 1)
In this 2 part episode, we begin our exploration of Type, with the Generator. These Sacral beings make up around 70% of the population. Generators are the life force of the planet, designed to respond to life rather than initiate it. Through the mechanics of their defined Sacral Center and open, enveloping aura, Generators produce energy when they engage with what truly satisfies them.
Kelsey also unpacks the deeper meaning of “work” and “labor” for Generators, outside the lens of capitalism or productivity culture. This episode invites Generators to reimagine their relationship with energy, creativity, and satisfaction so they can begin trusting their body’s natural yes and no response to guide them.
What's Discussed in this Episode:
- What defines a Generator
- Why the Generator’s strategy of “waiting to respond” is not restriction, but alignment
- The mechanics of the Generator aura: availability, openness, and energetic response
- The Sacral Center as the body’s motor for vitality, creativity, and sustainable energy
- The role of “work” in Generator life
- Reframing labor as creative, life-affirming energy expenditure
- Healing the collective relationship to work and energy misuse
- The difference between initiating from the mind vs. responding from the body
- How to recognize, trust, and follow your natural Sacral responses

People are lazy. We need to value work more or the idea of as a culture we focus way too much on work, we should be working less anti work.
You know, both of those, one is a reaction to the other and both of them are based on the construct of capitalism and the very distorted orientation that we have as a society to work right now.
And so I want to invite us to be aware of the effect that our programming and these societal constructs and a very mind oriented, imbalanced relationship to what work actually is on a physical level.
The expenditure of energy towards production or sustenance or maintenance of something on the planet, whether that's art, whether that's a trade, you know, whatever it is, the expenditure of energy is neutral and our reactive orientations to it make sense right now, but also are a product of a construct.

Speaker A:The first aura type we're going to take a look at closely is the generator. So within this section on the generator, we're going to look at a bunch of things, some of which are named on this slide, including the mechanics of the defined sacral center.
And then how those defined sacral mechanics color the experience of the generator through their aura open and enveloping their strategy of responding. The themes specifically, we'll. We'll take a look at what is satisfaction, what creates satisfaction in the generator form, as well as frustration.
The not self theme. We'll go over what I consider the vehicle's fundamental prerogative of the generator, which is to carry life force.
And then after all of that, as well as a bit woven throughout, we'll look at some miscellaneous generator stuff. Just revisiting the general bird's eye view overview of the generator type.
And now that we have gone over what it means to have a defined sacral center, each of these facts here, mirror image, each of these bullet points here are going to have. They're going to have more meaning, they're going to make more sense based on sacral center mechanics.
And so most of this video is really in digging into each of these bullet points a bit more. So again, generators, the aura type for the generator is all based on having a defined sacral center.
When you hear people say sacral beings or sacral beings, we're referring to generators, because that definition in the sacral center is what determines that someone has the aura type of generator. And this is about 70% of the population.
And based on a different part of the mechanic, which is the motor to the throat, about half of that 70% will be pure generators, and about half will be manifesting generators. Both of the variations of generator types have an open and enveloping aura. Experiment with the strategy of waiting to respond or being in response.
Experience themes of satisfaction and frustration.
And of these 70% of the population of these generators, the authority that's available is either emotional authority, and that's gonna be if the person has solar plexus definition in addition to sacral definition or sacral authority if it's an undefined solar plexus with a defined sacral. Before we get into the mechanics of the generator orotype, I want to talk about language for a moment.
I want to acknowledge that our programming, our conditioning, affects our relationship to words and affects the way that we understand words. Words have baggage, and that baggage is rooted very much so in the mental plane and the mind's distortion via our conditioning.
And there's some particular words that in this moment in time, I see tend to incite strong reactions from one end of the binary or the other.
And the, the words that I want to orient to specific to going over generator mechanics and that I want to invite us all to have a personal discernment around how we orient these words and concepts, our work and labor, because of where we are in like the human evolutionary story, the particular chapter of it that we're on right now because of our history with work and labor and because of the present reality of very exploitative systems in regards to work and labor.
The inherently neutral concepts of energy expenditure using our energy putting in work and labor have all sorts of like baggage, essentially all sorts of narratives surrounding them that on a mechanical level, as we'll look at today through the mechanics of the generator don't actually have anything to do with, with good or bad. Right. They're just what is happening.
So for instance, on one end of the binary you have like that, I think it was a Kardashian who said nobody wants to work anymore. The sort of perspective that today's workforce is lazy, right? The sort of perspective that millennials and Gen Z are lazy don't are entitled. Right.
There's that kind of narrative on one end of the binary that would the bootstraps end of the binary. And then on the other end of the binary there's the sentiment of I don't have a dream job, I don't dream of labor.
That sentiment that I certainly have agreed with myself and reposted many a times.
But both of these sentiments, the idea of people are lazy, we need to value work more or the idea of as a culture we focus way too much on work, we should be working less anti work. You know, both of those, one is a reaction to the other other.
And both of them are based on the construct of capitalism and the very distorted orientation that we have as a society to work right now.
And so I want to invite us to be aware of the effect that our programming and these societal constructs and a very mind oriented imbalanced relationship to what work actually is on a physical level.
The expenditure of energy towards production or sustenance or maintenance of something on the planet, whether that's art, whether that's a trade, you know, whatever it is, the expenditure of energy is neutral and our reactive orientations to it make sense right now, but also are a product of a construct.
And so I want to specify that when we talk about these words Work and labor in the context of human design, and specifically, when we're referring to generators being the aura type, that is the workforce, we are not referring to the exploitative nature of the homogenized world. Homogenized world's orientation towards work. That's not what we're talking about. That version of work is always going to bring frustration.
The version of work that exploits generators and the other types to use our life force or whatever it is, our awareness and our.
Our frequency brings, for the purposes of someone else's vision to an extent that requires us to compromise the knowing of our own body and our own autonomy. That's always going to result in frustration. And that is largely where we are at this moment in time.
But doing away with work in general is not the answer. That's reactive.
That is just an example of us reprogramming, becoming reconditioned in another direction in a reactionary way to a form of conditioning that we seek to escape. An aversion to work, an aversion to satisfying energy expenditure is also going to bring frustration to the generator.
An aversion to work and aversion to releasing life force energy. Expending life force energy in the ways that feel satisfying will dull and diminish the flow of life force on the planet. So I want to just.
I wanted to just poke around a little bit, set that tone and invite everybody to notice, especially generators, if they're tense. As you're listening through the generator lecture here, if you notice moments where in your body there's a resistance to the.
This idea of you being a part of the workforce, of your aura type, being about carrying the life force that is the doers and the builders and the creators of life on the planet. Just notice where that's coming from. Is it coming from potentially a voice of not self in an undefined center?
Is there actually dissonance with how I'm talking about things or how human design orients to generators and work? I don't have the answers for you, but I want to.
Want to just invite you to exercise some awareness and some curiosity and consider the effect that your programming has on your relationship to certain words such as work and labor. Because outside of capitalism, there is still energy expenditure, right? There is still work and labor.
Human design can help us to experience healthier relationships to work, healthier relationships to labor, healthier relationships to our capacity for doing and creating and productivity so that we can envision ways, both individually and collectively, of utilizing our energy, of being productive, of working and laboring that aren't limited to the picture of them that capitalism has painted for us.
Many people who are on a deconditioning path, a healing path, a spiritually aware path, have at one point or are currently experiencing harm and trauma in association with work and productivity culture.
Human design, in my opinion and in my experience, offers us a clear path to healing our relationship as individuals with work outside of these constructs that harm us, that have harmed us individually and as a society. Generators are designed to work for the sake of their satisfaction.
And anything more or less than that is mechanically incorrect for the generator will bring frustration, will interfere with the generator body's ability to regenerate energy, and will again dull and diminish and add a lot of frustration to the life force on the planet. And I want to emphasize anything more or less than that, right? Generators are designed to work for the sake of their satisfaction.
Productivity culture, exploitative labor systems run on generators, pushing themselves beyond what satisfies them, what is a satisfying use of their energy, and also a to a sort of reactionary swing away from work towards some homogenized version of rest is also going to be mechanically incorrect for generators for all people. But in, in this case, specifically for generators, generators trying to force themselves to rest might result in frustration.
Generators are here to actually burn through their energy, but only in ways that feel satisfying. And so, you know, I'm not a generator, I'm speaking of this conceptually I am undefined in the sacral center.
So I have at this point had quite a bit of aware experience amplifying different sacrals and feeling into their own experience of satisfaction versus frustration.
I'm bringing up, you know, I'm not a generator because I want to always encourage you and especially generators in this situation to feel into this for yourself. You know, even just as you're listening, trust what's coming up in your body and then experiment. Human design is an experiment.
So experiment with if you're feeling frustration, if you're feeling burnt out, do you actually need to completely rest until you feel recovered and. Or is there an extent to which there's sacral energy that's wanting to be used in a direction that you are not, you haven't had the outlet for? Right.
So for generators, it's not just a. It is, there is an element of regenerating and resting. A hundred percent rest is absolutely a part of the generator experience.
But a generator in alignment, a generator in their correct mechanical function, has new energy every day that does need to be used. So it's not about again, it's not about this reactive swing from work to not work, from fully work to fully rest.
As a collective, we are literally healing right now from centuries of harm and violence initiated by manifestors of the old world. Evolving might be a more apt word than healing for how I'm starting to learn to relate to the unrolling of the program. And it's no choice ness.
The program in human design is the transits. So it's just what's happening. It's just what's happening in the human experience.
And I'm bringing this up, you know, RA talked about it a lot in terms of slavery. As an example, generators.
You know, I just spent a few minutes talking about in capitalism, in productivity culture, in these exploitative labor systems, generators, life force has been exploited. Capitalism is the form it has most recently taken, right?
There are many different iterations throughout our history of the workforce, of the life force of the majority of the planet has been capitalized on, has been enslaved, has been exploited, has been controlled by someone with the power. And what RA often talked about was how manifesters are the only type that cannot be controlled. Manifestors are the only type that moves.
The Maya manifestors are mechanically the predators.
Now, manifestors, we're going to talk about this in a much more nuanced and loving and considering and compassionate for the manifestor aura type way when we talk about manifestors.
But whether you look at this as like historical fact or just a story to kind of explore archetypally, consider that at this moment in time there's a lot of baggage. Again, there's a lot of trauma stored in our bodies, in our collective, as a memory around generators being exploited by manifestors.
And so I bring that up to say that generators, I encourage you to be gentle with yourself if and as you do notice discomfort, fear or resentment showing up when I talk about or when you otherwise hear in your human design studies about the work related function of your aura type.
And manifestors, I encourage you to be gentle with yourself and with others when you experience your closed and repelling aura being perceived as a threat by others. There's history here, there's history beyond my aura and your aura.
There's generations and centuries of history of this dynamic, of the closed aura and the exploitation of the life force within generators and projectors and reflectors. You're not an energy type, but you are here to guide energy on the planet.
So your awareness in watching the not self mind based reactions to the above dynamic is a part of the evolution, a necessary part of how we Evolve towards interdependence. And that is an evolution in process. Right now, centering again around generators. Generators.
It really comes down to you honoring your fixed life force and the yes or no that your fixed life force provides through sacral response.
Lastly, and most importantly, Trust your body's ability to resonate, filter, regulate, place, and integrate or not all of this information in its own way, in your body's own time, in your body's own authority. As I've mentioned many times, at this point, the mechanics for the generator as an aura type are 100% based on the mechanics of the sacral center.
So, a quick review of the sacral center. The sacral center is the most powerful motor center in the body. It is the source of vitality, creative life force, and sexual energy.
It is the only motor center that provides consistent and unconditional fuel which makes one available for life. Put simply, the sacral is the body's power source.
And when we first went over the sacral, I did a description of the defined sacral experience and then the undefined sacral experience. We're talking about generators here. The generator type always has a defined sacral center.
So reviewing those basic mechanics, the basic experience of having a defined sacral center. Having a defined sacral center makes you a generator. This includes manifesting generators.
It gives you access to consistent life force energy in your body that wishes to. That organically wants to be expended in ways that feel good to you.
The defined sacral gives you the experience of being sort of revved up and ready to go. I probably used the metaphor in the earlier sacral video of being like a horse in a stall, waiting for the gun to go off. That's the way I first.
That's an example or a metaphor that my teacher Amy used when I was first learning about the sacral that always stuck with me. Waiting is active for the generator. It's not a punishment. It's a natural part of the defined sacral process.
Because it's in the waiting that the availability is there. Or in the horse's case, the gunshot to go off to go. It's an active waiting.
Having a defined sacral means your body is able to give you the cues that you have energy where that energy wants to be directed. And when that energy has been expended and the work or the labor or the productivity or the output of energy is now complete.
When the defined sacral is used in satisfying ways, the energy gets regenerated. And this is the crux of the function of the generator type. And the experience of life force within the generator body.
Generators sacral beings are designed to be available to respond to life. And your sacral either fuels the response or not. The generator open and enveloping aura pulls life towards the generator body.
For that sacral to respond to it, it's magnetic. The generator does not have to push or force only to respond. This open and enveloping aura, this magnetic aura, how does this work?
I talked about this when we were talking about life force in the previous video.
There's this engine, this powerful motor, this center of energy at the sacral center, and that energy emanates all throughout the form, all throughout the aura, into the area outside of the generator, outside of their aura, to touch everything around it, pulling things into it.
Energy emanates from the powerful sacral motor into and around the bioenergetic field, AKA the aura of the generator, wrapping itself around that which it encounters. The generator aura is designed to be penetrated by life, by the other. That's part of this enveloping. It is penetrated and it envelops.
And that gives the opportunity to. For the sacral center to touch things, to respond to them or not.
The aura of the generator energetically touches what it encounters and the body responds or not. The generator is designed to be available for what the aura pulls in. The generator body exists in a natural flow of waiting and response.
So again, waiting isn't something that is forced on the generator. It's the generator's natural state. I guess I don't want to say waiting is the natural state, because response is the natural state.
But response and waiting are one. And the, the generator strategy wait to respond. So you know, when you understand sacral mechanics, you understand that you.
You automatically, inherently understand satisfaction, frustration. The open enveloping aura and waiting to respond, it's all connected.
So we're going to be saying a lot of the same things on each of these slides to understand and to integrate and explore these different layers of the generator experience, because they're all rooted in the mechanics of the sacral. So we're really talking about the same thing From a few different angles.
In each of those angles being a teaching tool to help the generator body, to help the generator awareness watch what its generator body already organically does. So the generator strategy, wait to respond. Sometimes you'll hear people just say respond.
I often like to use the language be in response, because wait is another word that maybe has some baggage. And again, because I see response as just being the generator's natural state, the generator doesn't have to like force waiting for.
Usually actually what happens is the generator needs to like just observe the mind that's telling the generator to initiate, to go, to push. Because of the discomfort of pressure in the body that the not self mind then internalizes as a problem that it needs to escape from.
That takes the generator out of their natural state of waiting and response of that dance of response. So there's something just to the language be in response that I like. It just feels easier to me.
This is the natural way of your body waiting to respond, responding being in response. For generators, this is the natural way of the body. Generators inhabit a vehicle that is built to respond.
So generators wait to respond, not because initiating is impossible, but because initiating and creating in response is what the generator energy naturally wants to do. Initiation out of response happens against the grain. For generators, response offers ease and flow.
Waiting keeps the generator available for that which is for them, for that which their sacral actually wants to respond to, and will experience satisfaction through expending energy towards. One way to think about this is that for generators, initiating happens according to the mind's timeline and response happens according to the body's.
When a generator initiates out of response, it's because the mind, the mental narrative through the stories of the undefined centers and the conditioning there is pressuring the generator body to move against the grain.
But when the awareness seeps in to allow the generator to permiss the generator to put a bit of space between those pressures and those voices to understand that that's a natural part of their movie and not something that they need to run from or fight or force in regards to, then the generator can relax and response happens according to the body's timeline. Response waiting to respond is not about restricting the generator.
When you surrender to the mechanics, you're more aware in your availability for life. You watch your body respond to what is for you as it presents itself, you start to trust the body's timeline.
Because you watch how this response brings you to and through everything.
You need in way more satisfying ways than if you were to fight that natural timeline of your body offered through response with the mind's timeline and initiating, which tends to lead to frustration the sacral center. And therefore this response mechanism speaks in yes or no. Once as a generator.
Once you are processing outside of yes no, you're in the realm of the mind. So something that happens a lot is a generator receives information through their body's primary intelligence, which is the sacral center.
And whether that information is a yes or a no if the generator is asked to, like, speak up about it, to give an answer. So often the generator is going to try to fill in all sorts of rationale when really the only thing they know is yes or no.
Because that is what this primary intelligence center in the. In the defined sacral body, the sacral cent, is offering. It's yes the energy's there for that or no, it's not.
But once the generator is trying to articulate, maybe to externalize to someone else or even just to articulate to rationalize for themselves why it was a yes or why it was a no or that it was a yes or a no, you know, there's not energy for it, but, ooh, does my ego wish I could prove that I can do this right? Or there is energy for that, but, oh, I might upset this person undefined solar plexus narrative if I actually move towards this thing.
That would feel really satisfying to me. So the moment that you are processing outside of that, that gut yes or no, you're in the mind, and the mind's gonna be there.
It's always gonna be narrating.
But understanding that there is a distinction between your body's yes and no, and then the mental narratives that will always jump right on board to try to rationalize that yes or no, to talk you in or out of it or simply just make sense of it is important. And I have here sacral sounds. So I went earlier. You'll hear people talk about this, and I think some generators really relate to it, some don't.
So much depends on the channels that you have to your defined sacral. And I think that it also depends on the level of connection you have to your defined sacral.
And everybody has that connection who has a defined sacral. And the conditioning can make the not self sound and be experienced much more loudly than that sacral yes or no.
And so some of you might immediately find this idea of sacral sounds to resonate. Others won't, maybe won't experience it right away as something that's true for you.
But over time, as you decondition and become more in flow and in trust with that sacral and less repressed around it, you might find yourself making these sounds. And some of you, it might. It might just not be a part of how you experience the sacral yes or no.
But what I mean by sacral sounds is literally like, mm, like yeah, kind of sounds or no, right? Like mm, like all of those sounds, those grunty kind of sounds, those.
That's the gut feeling that's the sacral, that punch that your gut gets of, ooh, yes or no, like, that's the sacral. And sometimes there may be sounds associated with that. But Ra actually talked a lot about how human design is actually for children.
That's something that he said a lot so that parents can nurture children into having the relationships with their body that allow them to trust their definition and trust their strategy and their authority.
And so I've heard from multiple sources this idea that telling generator kids to use their words can actually be kind of damaging because it's conditioning them to skip over that gut response that they get to get to the rationalization point.
And, you know, using words is not inherently problematic, but nurturing the generator child's ability to really register what their sacral response is and then honoring that response or lack of response in the generator child is foundational for their well being.
And thus skipping to the use your words without first really honoring that part of registering the sacral can be damaging and a deeply conditioning force for the generator child.
Wanted to say about sacral speaking in yes or no, that if not sacral sounds right, if not mm or mm, mm mm or mm, if not a grunt or a mmm or whatever your sacral sound is, there might be, or in addition to that, there might be a sort of feeling of like your body actually kind of swells up and moves towards something because the life force is already responding. Right? It's like again, the horse in the stall waiting for the gun to go off. The horse isn't thinking when the gun goes off. It just goes.
And so the sacral can function that way. An image I often get when I'm talking about the sacral is like a faucet. And a sacral.
Yes, is like the faucet is just turned on and water is pouring out. There's energy for this. I'm responding. There's life force moving through me and a no. It's like the faucet's turned off. There's no water.
There's no gush. There's no water or life force gushing out right now.
