18. The G-Center
In this episode, Kelsey dives into the final center lecture with the G-center, which plays a unique and special role. The G-Center is the home of the Magnetic Monopole, which is moves us along our unique trajectory in life and operates based on resonance. Our mind is designed to be a passenger in the vehicle (our body) and the G-center acts as the driver of that vehicle.
We’ll look at how the G-center operates when defined versus undefined, how conditioning shapes our relationship with love and life direction. This episode is about learning to trust in your unique life direction, despite not knowing where exactly it is leading you.
What's Discussed in this Episode:
- The G-Center as the source of love and life direction in the Bodygraph
- Role of the Monopole in being the "driver" of our vehicle
- Healthy expressions vs. not-self tendencies in both defined and undefined G-Center
- Evolution of the Heart Chakra
- Conditioning and how it distorts trust in life direction and purpose
- Biological correspondence, connection to other centers, and circuitry
- Connection between the gates in the G-Center and the Solstice and Equinox

Whether we're defined or undefined in the G, we don't need to obsess over what our trajectory is. We're all going to the same place.
One way I sort of visualize the defined versus the undefined G is that none of us really know where we're going on a mental level at all, regardless of G definition. But defined GS I sort of visualize like ziplining where we're going. I can't see where it is I'm going, but I'm going in this direction.
I know I'm going In this direction versus undefined GS are sort of just like a leaf blowing in the wind. They might get taken over here for a little while and then taken over here for a little while.
There's no fixed trajectory, but in both cases we don't really know where we're going.
Speaker A:Welcome to the Living Your Design Podcast. I'm your experimentor Kelsey Rose Tortorice. This podcast is an audio only release of the full length, in depth, Human Design Foundations course I've been teaching over the last several years.
It is a no bullshit, comprehensive, embodied introduction to the human design system that will challenge your ego mind and support you in your process of reuniting with the unique wisdom of your body.
In episode one, I speak a bit about the process that led me to releasing this course for free in podcast form, and I offer a few notes that might be useful to contextualize and clarify what you'll hear in this episode and beyond. I recommend giving that short intro episode a listen if you haven't yet.
The LYD podcast is part of a larger living body of work, a growing archive of my teachings about consciousness through the languages of astrology and human design, hosted in an online community space where I stay in orbit with my students, mentees, alumni, peers and collaborators.

It's a deeply personal and somewhat vulnerable share that I feel honored, humbled and excited to release into the world.
Speaker A:I hope that it helps you remember and come home to yourself.
Speaker A:And now we are gonna take a look at the final of the nine centers in the body graph. The G center is a very special center. It operates in a way that is very unique to it.
Its functionality is completely different than Any of the other centers. The G center, or sometimes referred to as the self center, is the identity center of the body graph.
So this is not an awareness center, it's an identity center.
Pointing that out because we are studying it in the awareness center unit, it feels if it was going to be closest to a pressure or motor or an awareness center, I would say it's probably closest to an awareness center. But it is a different function. So I want to make sure to make that distinction.
The G center or self center or the singular identity center of the body graph deals with our sense of self direction in life and love. And it's based on resonance.
I've heard people use the word resonance to talk about the G center before, but I'm not sure that people stress it as much as I have come to in my own practice of articulating and teaching the G center. The G center shows us what resonates with us. And through that resonance we are pulled in a certain direction.
So that's where the sense of direction and trajectory in the G center come from. Through that resonance we experience love. We love what resonates with us.
And through that resonance and love, we develop a sense of self, we develop an identity.
The G center is the location of what in human design we call the magnetic monopole, which is the force that holds together our personality and our design and drives our trajectory through space and time.
So if you remember from the introduction to the body graph, I did a very brief overview of how we can have red definition or black definition in our design. The black definition comes from our moment of birth. The planetary positions in the gates at the moment of our birth.
It's our astrological natal chart. For those of us familiar with that, it's black in our design. It's called personality or sometimes referred to as what's conscious.
And then we also have our design definition, which are the planetary positions in Gates. 88 days, 88 degrees of the sun before we were born.
It looks red in our body graph and it is referred to as our design or sometimes the form or the body or the unconscious.
And although we will consciously orient to these different parts of our definition in different ways, on an auric energetic level, they are both present and they are both non negotiable aspects of our form. And the magnetic monopole is the force that is said to hold together. I don't know why I said said to. It's because I don't have an.
My AJNA doesn't have a clear way of orienting yet towards what Is what is this? I don't have any way of scientifically telling you what it is, although there's a lot of depth to Ra's teaching of cosmology and human design.
So there probably are some answers around that for people who want to dig deep. But I want to kind of walk back. Having said it is said that I want to approach it from.
Part of what Ra received when he received the knowledge of human design is that we all have this force in our G center called the magnetic monopole, which is what maintains the connection of these two versions of definition that come together in their composite, make us who we are as a form, and drives our trajectory through space and time.
So what's happening in the G center is that we are, we're literally pulled from that composite, that connective force between the personality and design in the exact right directions to be in the right time and places for all of the right initiations or responses or urges or initiations, regardless of our types, strategy, that are correct for us, that are correct for our trajectory in life as passengers. For people who have a defined G, you have a consistent sense of self, a fixed sense of who you are, where you're going and what you love.
And all of that comes from a consistent resonance. And the G is right in the center of the body graph. It's where many would consider the heart to be the ego in the body graph.
If you're looking at the body graph, it's just to the right and below the G and the ego center is the center that we sometimes name the heart center.
But I said this earlier on in unit one or two, and I want to reiterate that my understanding is that when we mutated from seven centered to nine centered beings, what is known as the heart chakra in the seven centered system split into these two different functionalities, one being the ego, which we do refer to as the heart, which is the part of the heart that is about, you know, putting your heart in it, getting your whole heart in something that willpower, the Leo orientation towards heart energy, the will, Right. But then there's also the G center, which I kind of associate more with mostly Pisces and a little bit Libra.
This orientation towards love, what I love, what feels like love to me. So I do see elements of like the traditional heart chakra in both. Although when we, when we say heart, most people are referring to the ego center.
Although I, I have more and more lately started to hear people refer to aspects of heart in both the G and the ego.
So when we're talking about heart for the G, we're talking about the concept of love, which I have come to understand as how we orient to what resonates with us. And that resonance then pulls us on our trajectory, pulls us on our path, so we move towards that which we love, that which resonates with us.
And when you have a defined G, you have consistency in regards to that which you love and that which resonates in your body as love, that which you enjoy the resonance of.
And so because you have a consistency within what types of things resonate with you and you love, you start to build a sense of identity, a sense of self, around that fixicity of what types of things feel like love and resonate with you.
So the fixed sense of who you are, as well as the fixed sense of where you're going, the direction you're heading in, and what you love all come from this consistency of resonance, from the magnetic monopole, which is the composite, the holding together of all these parts of yourself, all of your different definition.
So people with a defined G, then, have not only a specific sense of self and identity, a sense of who they are and the direction they're moving in their life, but also a specific and consistent flavor of personality that others register. People know the resonance that is Kelsey. My defined G, my flavor, my personality flavor.
Awareness of this fixed sense of self can differ based on whether your definition in the G is conscious or unconscious. So you might have a defined G that's defined mostly or entirely in red in the unconscious.
And you might not be like, I totally know who I am, and that's fine. Your body, your design, knows who you are.
And if you watch it with passenger consciousness, if you watch it with a kind of unattached awareness, you'll be able to see over time. Ah, yes. I do tend to move in the direction of blank. I do tend to resonate and love this.
And I have sort of built a sense of direction in life and identity around that.
With the undefined G, what you resonate with what feels like love in your heart, what you love will fluctuate the types of things that draw you towards them, that resonate with you, that register as love in your body will be different. I like to think of the defined, the undefined or open GS, like having the ability to find love anywhere in anything, right?
So there's that sort of Piscean exalted Venus vibe that I tend to associate with the open or undefined G. And because of that openness, when it comes to what resonates? What do I love? There is no fixed sense of identity that is able to be built and coalesced around a fixed resonance.
Resonance is unfixed, pure potentiality. Therefore, identity is also unfixed, and sense of direction or purpose or trajectory in life are also unfixed.
With an undefined G, you are designed to have a fluctuating identity that changes with the transits as well as based on your environment and who you are with.
The undefined G is very sensitive to their environment because while the undefined G can resonate with anything as love, its sense of resonance and love is determined on what is around me right now that I'm able to resonate with.
And so when an undefined G is in an unhealthy environment, there can be a real sensitivity to a discomfort with that because there's maybe not anything that actually feels like love. And so now that sense of love and resonance and direction is gone.
The identity that undefined G people have is also very often a mirror to those around them. This is where I see some of the, like my, my association I make with the undefined G and Libra coming in because Libra is.
Is so oriented in balancing and mirroring and wanting to relate to whatever it's facing. That's what happens in the undefined G. There's not a fixed flavor personality.
There's many flavors of personality based on who you're with, the transits, but also who you're with.
So you will sort of take on and reflect back a certain set of personality traits and mannerisms and flavors with the different people in your life as individuals, as well as with the different groups of people in your life, the different communities of people in your life. The undefined G can see clearly and amplify the identity of others.
You know the truth of them when they're in alignment, and you can feel the distortion of them when they're not. So again, sensitive to other people's sense of self and trajectory and how those things fill the environments that you're in.
Many possible flavors of personality, high sensitivity to environments. Certain places will feel good to you, others will not.
The undefined G may not have an easy time identifying their preferences as they're not naturally fixed. When I was first learning about the undefined G, this always stuck with me.
Again, my teacher, Amy Lee of the Human Design Collective, referenced like for the undefined G. Having to do things like write a bio or fill out a dating online dating profile can feel like, so challenging. Because how can I sum up this like, everythingness that is who I am. And so the not self of the undefined G will identify that as a problem.
It's a problem that I can't locate succinctly my preferences, my identity, that I am a chameleon. They'll make it a problem that they tend to change personality texture based on who they are with and where they are.
But that's what's correct for them. There is no natural fixity to identity, to preferences, to personality.
For the undefined G, it's good to get to practice getting comfortable without a fixed sense of direction and identity, and to remain open to many directions and many ideas of who am I?
One of my other teachers, Alok Diaz, talks about how like, okay, we either have a fixed trajectory with a defined G or an unfixed, kind of like all over the place trajectory with an undefined G. But either way, the trajectory ends in death. Despite the preferences of the spleen center, we all will die.
And so we don't need to obsess whether we're defined or undefined in the G. We don't need to obsess over what our trajectory is. We're all going to the same place.
One way I sort of visualize the defined versus the undefined G is that none of us really know where we're going on a mental level at all, regardless of G definition. But defined GS I sort of visualize like ziplining, where we're going. I can't see where it is I'm going, but I'm going in this direction. Direction.
I know I'm going in this direction. Versus undefined GS are sort of just like a leaf blowing in the wind.
They might get taken over here for a little while and then taken over here for a little while. There's no fixed trajectory, but in both cases we don't really know where we're going.
I'll share my own sort of orientation to it through my own experience is I had no idea that I would be into the esoteric realm, into astrology, into yoga, into spirituality, into human design. Right until the moment that I was drawn to these things. There was absolutely no preconceived mental awareness that I would be into these things.
However, I have always been a teacher. I have always been someone who wants to share and synthesize what I'm learning immediately with others.
I have always been very interested in like, understanding the self and understanding the self in relation to others, and understanding relationship and autonomy and interdependence dependence and the patterns and frequency of Things like, for instance, I was a music teacher. I was very into community through music making, through choirs my whole life. Growing up, I studied music education.
I became a teacher as those things started to fall away at my sacral burnout. I didn't know where I was going next. But now I can look back and see like community has remained an important component of what I do.
I've always resonated with the idea of how we come together and how we come apart, with the idea of pattern frequency that we see in music, astrology, human design, with the teaching. Right. So I don't, I still don't know where I'm going or what I'm going to be doing with my life in a few months, definitely not a few years.
But I can sense this sort of direction that I've always been moving in.
And that's my defined G having a fixed sense of like interests and identities around that interest in way of tuning in with love as it registers in my body and moving towards that which I love.
For the undefined G, you know, my life has taken many turns and the undefined GS life will take many terms as well, but there will just not be as much consistency, most likely in regards to the direction they moved, that I can kind of in retrospect identify in my own trajectory. For the defined G in a healthy state, there's a fixed nature to what you love and how you love.
And you have a consistent specific direction in life based on those loves and preferences. In a healthy state, the defined G can serve as the directional driver for others too based on these fixed preferences in love.
So you might be the person in your relationship, whether it's a one on one relationship or a group in a relationship of any nature, who kind of provides the sense of direction for the group or the relationship if the other person has an undefined G. But of course they'll need to filter that through their own strategy and authority.
A healthy defined G trusts and observes that following their strategy and authority will align them with the correct direction in life and keep them connected with that which they love. Healthy defined G understands they're not the ones doing it on an ego mind place.
They are just being moved by surrendering to the process of being pulled towards that which they love.
A defined G in a not self state experiences conditioning from other centers, especially the mind, attempting to interfere with that natural direction.
So trying to strategize, to think steps ahead, to know what the right or wrong decision is, rather than just allowing themselves to be pulled in the Direction of what they're called towards, in the direction of what resonates.
A not self defined G will initiate new directions, new love and identity traits from the mind, rather than following the natural trajectory through the resonance of their heart, through what they love.
And a defined G in a not self state will also pressure or expect others to follow their direction or to maintain their own fixed identity or direction. So a defined G might take for granted the fixity of their sense of self, of their personality.
And that might manifest as them assuming that someone whose personality tends to fluctuate much more, someone who takes on different characteristics in different settings with different people, defined G might look at that and consider it to be inauthentic.
But actually it would be inauthentic for the undefined G to try to fixate on any one aspect of their very multidimensional, always changing, chameleon sort of identity.
A defined G might pressure someone else to stick with a certain type of interest, rather than allow or encourage an undefined G to allow their openness to all sorts of different interests and a very nonlinear trajectory within those things. A healthy, undefined G is open to all possibilities for the direction of their lives.
They allow themselves to be this leaf and to be blown by the wind. And they're comfortable with the changing of direction.
They're comfortable with having gone in this direction for a while when it felt really good, and then allowing that to go and not creating any mental narratives about was it a waste of time, was it untrue, it was true and it was exactly the thing that was happening when it was happening. And now you're gonna let go of that in order to be blown by the breeze into a different direction, which is just as true and just as valuable.
A healthy undefined G is able to resonate with many forms of and vessels for love.
A healthy undefined G is comfortable without a fixed identity allows the personality and preferences to shift based on correct interpersonal and transit conditioning that happens correctly, mechanically, correctly, through your strategy and authority. And a healthy undefined G uses strategy and authority to navigate the fluctuating sense of direction and identity.
A healthy undefined G recognizes that they are a mirror for others identities. They can see who is being themselves in the world and who is not.
So again, there's sensitivity to whether someone is embodying the truth of their expression in their self or trying to distort who they are based on their not self conditioning and their not self mind.
And the G that sensitivity to environment, part of what that is is being very Sensitive to environments where people are not in truth, where there's more not self than there is self and truth.
The undefined G in a healthy state is going to remain in touch with their comfort and health in relation to their environment, so is going to be able to be honest with themselves if and when their environment is not feeling good.
So think about like the potential for an undefined G and an undefined spleen together to really corroborate in this process of sabotaging somebody's need to be spontaneous and move and change direction. Even though to the not self mind it can be scary to let go of a direction or a source of security and safety.
An undefined gene and a not self state is going to obsess over looking for love. Where can I find the next hit of love and resonance in my heart, since it's not consistent in my own form?
Will obsess over finding a direction or a purpose in life, attempts to fixate or sustain personality traits, interests, communities, beliefs, anything that they can identify with. Because there isn't this comfort in the unfixed identity in the fluctuating direction.
And a not self undefined G is always looking for a role that they can play. And sometimes that ends up manifesting as the undefined G person.
Repeating roles in characters that their mind is like, you can do this one, you're identifying with this one, fixate on this one. And then limiting themselves to those roles rather than allowing for the openness.
So feeling like they always need to be the caretaker or the teacher or the rebel, you know, whatever archetypal role, that's just a coping mechanism for not being comfortable with the natural fluctuation of identity and roles that undefined GS are designed for. The main not self theme for the undefined or open G center is I have to know who I am and where I'm going. So this might sound simply like who am I?
The question really needs to be who am I today? Who am I right now? How can I find my purpose in life? Who I am? Who can show me my purpose in life? Who can show me where I am, where I'm going?
I mean, what my purpose is, where I'm going? Am I lost? Obsessing over feeling lost? I need to stick with this hobby, with this role, with this direction. Who will love me and who can I love?
Always trying to find something to resonate as love. How or where can I find that person who will love me or who I can love? I don't know who or how to be. Why doesn't my path in life make sense?
And in summary, the question to ask yourself to discern whether you are in GCN or not self is am I looking for love and direction? Am I making this decision or moving in this way or suppressing this part of me because I'm looking for love and direction.
About 57% of people have the G center defined. So a slight majority, the biological correspondence to the G is the liver and blood. The G center has eight gates.
And this is one of the coolest patterns of the gates in the centers to me is that all eight gates in the G center are the points at which the solstices and equinoxes happen. There's four of those, two equinoxes and two solstices, as well as their midpoints.
And when I say happen again, I'm referring to like I did with the spleen when the sun enters that gate. So.
So in our tropical zodiac, in the annual orientation of the sun in the gates, the G center gates are where the solstices and equinoxes happen as well as their midpoints. So we've got the Pisces Aries cusp. When the sun goes into Aries, that's the spring equinox point.
At 25 we have the Gemini Cancer cusp, which is the summer solstice point. The Virgo Libra cusp, which is the fall equinox point. These are all in the northern hemisphere.
And the Sagittarius Capricorn cusp, which is the winter solstice point. And then we have the midpoints to those which happen across the Scorpio Taurus axis.
At the beginning of Scorpio, we have Gate 1, and at the beginning of Taurus Gate 2. And we have the Leo Aquarius axis in Gates 7 and 13. These are the midpoints as well between the solstices and the equinox.
The beginning of Leo in the beginning of Aquarius. There's no tribal gates in the G center.
Your trajectory in life has to do with your own individual orientation and the collective orientation, not the tribes. And the G can be defined in connection to the sacral.
And this is where we have life force, creative fuel, energy that can fuel me and my sense of love and my direction.
ect to the spleen through the:We have one place where the G connects to the ego, the 51 in the ego and the 25 in the G. This is the will for universal love, willpower for love and direction. And then we have these three gates, the 7, 1 and the 13, where the G connects to the throat.
And this is projecting the self through externalization outwards love and direction externalized through the throat. Foreign.
